Why it’s Awesome
This Cherry Chocolate Smoothie only uses 5 ingredients and it’s gluten free, vegan, and uses natural sweetener. It will only take 10 minutes total time maximum to make it so it is great for a busy morning when you need something to keep you on the go for a while. If you don’t have the exact ingredients, you can modify a few things which is helpful. I’ll list the variations below if you are interested.
Key Ingredients
Oats: I prefer to use old fashioned rolled oats in my smoothies. Oats are very nutritious as well as filling and may help you lose weight. If you don’t happen to have old fashioned rolled oats, you may use the type you have in your pantry.
Oat Milk: Oat milk is my go to dairy-free milk option because it’s creamy and high in vitamins. If you prefer to use a different type of milk, such as a cup almond milk, that is perfectly fine and the smoothie will still taste good.
Frozen Cherries: Frozen cherries are great because you can have them on hand in the freezer at any time, and they add delicious flavor to the smoothie. They are great to add to your diet because they are packed with nutrients, may improve your heart health and sleep quality too!
Cocoa Powder: Unsweetened cocoa powder is the best option for this recipe. If you would like to use chocolate protein powder that works nicely as well!
Maple Syrup: Maple syrup is my favorite natural sweetener because it has a really nice flavor that compliments many drinks and food. You may also use honey, agave or a no calorie sweetener like Splenda if you prefer.
Directions
To start, add the rolled oats to the blender and pulse until a coarse powder forms.
Then add the oat milk, cherries, cocoa powder, maple syrup, and ice (if you’d like) and blend until smooth.
Smoothie Tips
This cherry smoothie recipe can be customized a bit to your liking and you can add additional ingredients if you prefer.
If you’d like to add a frozen banana to this recipe, it works well. You can add a half or whole frozen banana and blend.
You may also add some chia seeds for additional fiber, protein and antioxidants.
Make this in a blender or my favorite gadget, the Nutribullet! That thing is amazing. I have it linked in the recipe card.
FAQs
This chocolate cherry smoothie recipe is healthy because it uses healthy ingredients and doesn’t have a lot of added sugar. The only sugar added to this is maple syrup which is a natural sweetener and good for you.
Depending on the smoothie recipe, you can use milk or water to make a smoothie. For this recipe, I use oat milk to add liquid and creaminess to the smoothie. It is a great non-dairy alternative to regular milk and it’s healthy as well. You can also add some ice to your smoothie.
Smoothies can help you lose weight if you make a healthy one without a lot of added sugar. It can also replace a convenient but unhealthy breakfast and smoothies are quite easy to make as well. If you combine a healthy smoothie with a good exercise routine it can certainly help you reach your health goals.
