Why you'll love it
- Quick and easy recipe made with buttery crescent rolls and cocktail franks
- Perfect appetizer for just about any occasion
- Tasty snack kids and adults will love
Ingredients
See recipe card below for precise amounts.
Crescent roll dough - we use Pillsbury brand for this recipe, but you can use store brand if you prefer. The dough is similar to puff pastry, which you can use as a substitute. One tube has eight rolls and each will be cut into thirds for a total of 24.
Smoked cocktail sausages - we used Hillshire Farm LIt'l Smokies, but there are endless brands to choose from. A 14 ounce package has between 30 and 36 franks. So if you do the math, you'll have a few left over. Hot dogs are also a great substitution. Cut them into thirds and use just as you would the mini sausages.
Everything bagel seasoning - this is totally optional, but sometimes I like to make 12 classic and 12 with bagel seasoning. The seasoning is made up of black and white sesame seeds, poppy seeds, minced dried garlic, minced dried onions, and salt flakes.
Instructions
- Pop open a tube of crescent dough and unroll onto a cutting board.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut along the precut lines to separate the crescents. You should have 8 total.
- Cut one crescent into three equal sized strips.
- Place a sausage at the wider part of the strip and roll it up. Repeat the process until the desired amount is made.
- Sprinkle some with bagel seasoning, if using.
- Preheat the air fryer to 350 degrees F for three minutes.
- Place crescent dogs in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Leave some space between them to allow the hot air to circulate and give the dough room to rise.
- Air fry for 5-6 minutes at 350 degrees F, or until sausages are hot and pastry is golden brown. I don't flip mine over because I like to keep the tops fluffy.
- If more cooking time is needed, increase time in short 30 second increments to prevent over browning.
- Reduce temperature to 330 degrees F (or lower) if you notice that the pastry is browning too quickly. Add more cook time if needed.
Kitchen tips
- Air fryers can vary by brand and model. It may be necessary to adjust the temperature and cook time.
- Empty sausages into a small bowl and pat dry with a paper towel before wrapping in dough.
Line a baking sheet with sheet of parchment paper. Follow the prep instructions and bake in a preheated 375 degree F oven for 12 to 15 minutes.
To make ahead: prepare as directed without cooking. Place on a a flat surface like a baking sheet and cover tightly with plastic wrap. Keep in the refrigerator for up to 2 hours, or until ready to cook.
How to store and reheat
Let cool before storing. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. For best results, store in a single layer, or stack with a piece of parchment paper in between layers.
Reheat in the microwave until hot. Pastry will not be crisp.
Reheat in the oven at 330 degrees F until heated through, about 5 minutes. Cover loosely with foil to prevent over browning.
Reheat in the air fryer at 320 degrees F until heated through, about 3 minutes.
Before freezing, let cool. Freeze in a single layer in a freezer safe container or gallon zip-top bag.
To reheat from frozen, place frozen pigs on a baking sheet and cover loosely with foil.
Bake at 345 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes or until heated through. In the air fryer, cover loosely with foil and reheat at 300 degrees F until heated through.
