Why you'll love it
Perfect side dish - homemade fries are the perfect side to serve with so many meals. We love them with French dip sandwiches, instant pot brisket, and huevos rancheros.
Air fried - air frying uses hot air to cook foods instead of oil. It's the best way to cook foods when you want a crisp texture but also reduce fat and calories from deep frying.

Ingredients
Russet potatoes - I prefer russets for steak fries because they are always available, inexpensive and the perfect size. You can use a different kind of potato such Yukon gold potatoes.
Olive oil - I love the flavor of extra virgin olive oil, but you can use a mild flavored oil like canola oil or vegetable oil. Avocado oil will also work.
Montreal steak seasoning - Montreal seasoning is made up of different spices like coarse salt, black pepper, onion powder and garlic powder. It's bold and zesty with a touch of sweetness so it adds a ton of flavor to plain potatoes. Of course, use your imagination when you want to switch up the flavors.
Paprika - I like to add a bit of paprika mainly for color. Regular paprika is quite mild so if you want even more flavor try Hungarian.
Salt - there is salt in the Montreal seasoning, but I like to add just a pinch more. Use sea salt, kosher salt, or table salt. This is optional and it for best results, use salt and pepper to taste.

Scrub potatoes under cool running water. Pat dry with paper towels.
Using a large cutting board, cut potatoes into 8 lengthwise wedges: cut potato in half then cut each half in half until you have 8 wedges per potato. I keep the skin on, but you may prefer to peel them.
Spread potatoes onto a baking sheet, or use a large bowl or even a large zip top bag. Drizzle with olive oil being sure each steak fry gets coated. This will help the seasonings adhere.
Sprinkle seasonings over steak fries, being sure to get some on each side.
Place wedges into the air fryer basket in a single layer. The easiest way to get all the wedges into the basket is to place them skin side down.
Air fry steak fries for 18-20 minutes at 400 degrees F. There is no need to flip or shake, but you may want to check for doneness at the 15 minute mark. They are done when they are golden brown with a crispy texture and can be easily pieced with a fork.
Quick facts
Steak fries should be crisp on the outside and tender on the inside when done. If you can easily pierce the potatoes with a fork, then they are ready.
Frozen steak fries can be cooked in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy. This should also work for crinkle fries tool.
It's not necessary to soak or pre-cook potatoes before air frying them. I tried both methods, and found that cooking raw potatoes was the easiest way and also produced the best results.
Top tips
- Actual cooking time will vary and depend on thickness of the fries and your type of air fryer.
- If you want to use less oil, try using an oil sprayer.
- Try to get your potato wedges in an even layer to allow even browning.
How to store
Store leftovers in an airtight container for four or five days. Freeze for up the three months.
Toss with a bit of oil or cooking spray before reheating in the microwave, oven, or air fryer until hot.

I made this tonight to go with our steaks, and they were yummy. Have a little kick from the Montreal seasoning. But I liked the flavour. Thank you so very much for the recipe. 10/10 would recommend.

Great recipe! I'm going to make these instead of purchasing frozen fries. So much better and a lot cheaper!๐๐
