Why you'll want to make this salad dressing
No mayo here, just a light vinaigrette consistency.
Simple ingredients from the pantry.
Tangy and sweet flavor pair perfectly with spinach and fruit salads.
Versatile enough to be used as a sauce on roasted veggies, grilled chicken, and seafood.
Ingredients
- Dijon mustard - using regular mustard will taste different, but it's another version you might like.
- Dry mustard powder
- Honey or maple syrup, agave nectar
- Apple cider vinegar or another fruity vinegar like raspberry.
- Canola oil, vegetable oil, or a mild olive oil. Extra virgin olive oil is also delicious, but keep in mind that it does have a flavor, where the other options are neutral.
- Sesame oil or another nutty one like walnut oil
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions

STEP ONE: Mix dijon mustard and dry mustard together in a small bowl.
STEP TWO: Add vinegar, then slowly pour in the oils, whisking constantly to combine.
STEP THREE: Season with salt and pepper to taste.
STEP FOUR: Refrigerate for a couple hours before serving. Give it a quick stir, as the ingredients may separate.
Tips
- You may prefer using mason jars to make your homemade dressings.
- Add one glove of garlic (pressed of finely minced) or half a teaspoon of garlic powder.
- Try lemon juice instead of vinegar.
- Use a local honey to support your community.
- Double or triple for a big batch or if you're meal planning.
- Add a dollop of Greek yogurt to thicken it and use as a dipping sauce.
How to store
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator and use within one week. Mason jars work well. Be sure to give it a good shake before serving as the honey mustard dressing will have separated.
